
Lukas Henke studied “protestant church music” (BA and MA) and choral conducting MA at the Hamburg University of Music and Performing Arts (choral conducting: Prof. Hannelotte Pardall; organ: Prof. Wolfgang Zerer, Prof. Jan Ernst, Prof. Martin Böcker; orchestral conducting: Prof. Frank Löhr). In addition, Lukas Henke worked as a tutor in choral conducting and held his first teaching position at the HfMT from 2018 to 2021.
From 2015 to 2021, Henke was Assistant Director of Music at the parish church St. Petri zu Hamburg in collaboration with KMD Thomas Dahl. In 2016, Henke took over the musical direction of the Collegium vocale St. Petri from Prof. Cornelius Trantow. The concert series KLANGRÄUME was an innovative format in the midst of the city and society under his direction.
Lukas Henke has been active as a choirmaster and choral singer in and around Hamburg. Engagements have taken him to all five of Hamburg’s main churches and he has collaborations with the Hamburg Camerata and the Bundesjugendballett (artistic director – John Neumeier). In 2018, Henke was interim director of the SanktNikolaiChor Kiel. Organ and choir concerts have taken him all over Germany and to other European countries.
In 2020, he helped to create a wide range of digital offerings that bring church and church music to people’s homes. Cooperation partners here included Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper.
From September 2021 to August 2024, Lukas Henke was Director of Music at the Ev. Johanneskirche in Heidelberg-Neuenheim and lecturer in choral conducting at the Heidelberg University of Church Music. Cooperation partners from this time are the Heidelberger Frühling, the Bachchor Heidelberg, the baroque orchestra L’arpa festante and many more.
From September 2024 on, Lukas Henke will be Director of Music at the Evangelical Lutheran St. Ansgar Church in Oldenburg-Eversten, succeeding KMD Johannes von Hoff. Here the Oldenburger Chamber Choir, the Ansgar church choir and other parts of St. Ansgar’s music are under his leadership. 2025 starts the AnsgarLounge, a new series of concerts developed by Lukas Henke.
